Arbitration Thessaloniki, Greece: Creation of permanent arbitration at Thessaloniki Bar Association

By virtue of the Presidential Decree No 68/2020 (Government Gazette A 162/28.08.2020) which has been published on August 28th, 2020 a permanent arbitration tribunal is being founded in Thessaloniki, Greece at the Thessaloniki Bar Association marking a new era in ADR and arbitration in Greece, Northern Greece in particular, and also the whole Balkan peninsula. We in DIKAION LAW Lawyers & Consultants are very proud since our founding and managing partner (Mrs) Nenia Adamidou has been actively involved in drafting the Arbitration Rules & Regulation, now included in the Presidential Decree 68/2020, as an esteemed member of the Thessaloniki Bars Association Arbitration Committee.

Among other provisions the Decree provides for the founding at the Thessaloniki Bar Association of a permanent arbitration for the resolution of private law disputes with a financial object under contract or not to which articles 867-900 of Greek Civil Procedural Law Code and of L. 2735/1999 on international arbitration will apply in a complimentary manner to the provisions of the Arbitration Regulation now confirmed by the Presidential Decree No 68/2020.

The law of Arbitration is expected to undertake further modifications withde the modification of the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration. Stay tuned!
